Yeah - it's that whole dead/alive thing again, isn't it? Scrolling down after seeing the painted close-up, it's like looking at his corpse. Except that you do it in reverse.
Plus, there's the thing where, as with anything created, there are stages where it doesn't yet look like the picture in your mind - so you have in mind at this stage what he's going to look like, but of course, I don't, which produces a weird sense of wonder, like I've just seen magic done.
