Enter the Human Element. This angel is scratched and bloodied. The gargoyle on the left is holding a pocket watch, the harlequin in the center is drinking her tears and the one on the right is peeking under her skirts. I don't really think I'd want a story written solely about "A Measure of Grace". In my mind, any story written about that piece would have to include this one too. They are locked together that way for me. I still have this sculpture here with me.

This piece is so strongly visceral - on a hunch, I showed the photo, sans comments, to several women I know who are abuse survivors. Each one looked for awhile, and then Nodded. I thing they Got It even more than I did.....

Thanks.

I've always seen this angel as a being of tremendous strength, in the quiet and sad moments after a deadly struggle.

This is much more superficial than Jordan's Mom's reading, but...

Something about the figure reminds me of long-distance runners at the end of the race, with those foil blankets over their shoulders. (My first reaction, now dismissed, was that the gargoyle's watch was a stopwatch!) This angel has endured and is spent for the moment, but you can see she will get up once more, wipe off the blood and tears, set her shoulders and continue with her struggle, whatever it is.

(I think I'll have to come back and look at this one. I'm doing my first 5K road race in a month and I think all the training is giving me a one-track mind, alas...)
