The face becomes more detailed, This is the moment he becomes real. I suspend my disbelief here, nearly as when watching a film. It's the moment you can forget the medium and enter into the story. Here is where I see him, and he looks back.
Ooooh. Yes, this shows exactly what you mean. He's not just a lamp-stand festooned with wire and paper, any more. It's a bit scary. Fascinating, but frightening.
